December 13th is Santa Lucia day in Sweden, I think this is one of my favorite traditions from Chris' family! Santa Lucia is celebrated for bringing light and food to Sweden during the long, dark winter. On Lucia day, the oldest daughter dresses up in a white dress with a red sash and the crown of lights, and she brings Saffron bread and ginger cookies to her family while singing a delightful little song...we have combined it with a mini-smorgasbord and voila...it is a wonderful night! We also read a Lucia story that Grandma Inger sent, Brielle loved it! We had such a fun night! The only thing that could have made it better would have been the rest of our family! We miss you all!

I loved the pictures and the message of what you did. Sounds like such a nice tradition to have Santa Lucia and a smorgasbord, all in one. A Swedish tradition that is worth carrying on. I loved the pictures and hope to be able to attend one day. Brielle really looked VERY authentic and just right!
Oh yes Brielle looks really like a Swedish little girl dressed up for Santa Lucia! I love this tradition, which is followed in some villages in France too. How sweet! Nice to see you around the table. Bisous

Inger made a blue cheese roll for a party we had last weekend. Such great food. We are lucky to have married into such fun traditions!
I am sure Inger was happy to see it done right! we watched a movie a couple weekends ago that portrayed Santa Lucia but she was disappointed in the un-authenticity.

I totally forgot about Santa Lucia! What part of Sweden is Chris' family from? Cute little Brielle. She's a much cuter Santa Lucia than I was.

she's such an angel. I wanted to dress up but I don't think it's as cute to have a 28 year old lucia. That's just sad!
