Dennis the Menace...

About a year ago Chris and I had a conversation about how we thought it was sad that his sister and her husband nicknamed their little boy 'beast'...then the other day we had another conversation about how we now understood exactly where they were coming from!!! 1 year old BOYS are little monter's...they are into everything...busy, busy, busy all the time! Brielle was an angel in comparison to Dean! She never got into my kitchen drawers and cabinets and left a trail of kitchen utensils and Tupperware, she never wanted to play in the toilet, climb on everything and She NEVER ONCE threw something down a set of stairs....Dean purposely goes to the closet where we keep our vacuums, pulls out Brielle's little vacuum, walks to the staircase and pushes it down...just for the heck of it! WHY? I keep asking myself..what makes that fun?

Are you familiar with the comic 'Dennis the Menace'? It was also a TV show in the 80's (that my sis was banned from watching because she was already mischievous and my parents thought it gave her more 'bad ideas')!

This is the description I found on the Internet for Dennis: "a bumbling but lovable blond-haired, angel-faced little devil...with a penchant for mischief. Everywhere he goes, Dennis' wide-eyed curiosity, well-meaning attempts to help out and his youthful nature always seem to lead to trouble."

HMMMMMM....sounds like someone I know....and I am afraid of what is to come! Dean is officially a 'menace!'

Chris was with the kids yesterday...he realized Dean had been in our bathroom for awhile and was really quiet...when he went in the bathroom this is where he found Dean! He is 14 months old and he climbed the stool and used it to get into the sink...what was up there that he wanted so badly? My toothbrush!

Dean is SO glad that my sister had to send her harp back to Utah (because the house she lives in has termites), he hopes you never move Nat! He likes to lie back on the harp and pluck the strings!"O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree I love to remove thy ornaments!"

I love that they refer to Dennis the Menace as 'Bumbling' (Bumble: To move, act, or proceed clumsily)...this is Dean to a T! He is constantly running into walls, falling/tripping and getting hurt! I wonder if because he is so tall & strong, he thinks he is more capable then he is coordinated! Not to mention...he is still so bow legged! Chris says Dean uses his head as a buoy--which is why he always has a million bumps and bruises on it! My sister told me a few months ago that he looked abused because he had so many bruises and scrapes on his head...how sad is that! This is what he looked like at the time:

They don't come much more "lovable" and "angel faced" than this! He spends 60% of his time being Dean the menace and the other 40% wanting to be held/cuddled and giving huge hugs..combine that with his infectious smile and you cannot help but adore him!

I hope he survives childhood! I also hope Brielle survives it...he often smacks her with Barbies, tackles her while growling (and smiling!) and the other day in the car he was hitting her in the head with his plastic hammer--she was buckled in right next to him and could not get away! Gosh, I hope I survive it!

AH hahhaaa! Oh my goodness... I started to quickly skim the text and then I realized it was talking about ME! Aw, I'm sorry you guys thought that was mean! It really is a term of endearment ("is" meaning the name has stuck)! But yeah, you are so right.

Dean is SO SO CUTE!! And wow, Brielle really was an angel, I can't believe she never did any of those things. Well, I'm sure anyone would say those are typical "boy things" so I'd be more worried if he wasn't doing those things! :)

I can't believe you're giving away all my menacing secrets. I loved this post...It is so fun to see all those pics. Can't wait to see the christmas card pic...more importantly I can't wait to see all of you. Only 3 more weeks.

What an adorable child! I love the ones of him sitting in the sink! He sure does have a wonderful smile! I remember my boys getting bruises and also the climbing thing!

Just wait for the 2's and 3's. But, what mom can resist the sweet love of their sweet little boy. I'm the biggest sucker in the whole world. One little kiss or smile from my little guy and he can do no wrong.
